November Fab Furniture Flipping Contest – “Colour Your World”
The sponsor for this month’s Fab Furniture Flipping Contest™ “Colour Your World” is Velvet Finishes by Kellie Smith. I love trying out new paints, and this one’s low VOC and formulated to create a beautiful finish with no need for adding a wax topcoat.
Let me introduce you to Velvet Finishes.
The NO sand, NO prime, NO chalk, NO wax furniture paint formula that will rock your world.
*Some or all of the hosts of The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest receive monetary and/or product compensation from the sponsoring brand, Velvet Finishes in order to complete their themed projects.
Velvet Finishes will also provide the prize package for the contest winner.
Look at the array of color hues we had to choose from. You can use them as is or create a custom color mix of your own, even add a color to your tint your topcoat, but I’ll get to that later.
My “Colour Your World” Product Choices
For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this behind the scenes shot of the Velvet Finishes products I chose for this project:
- Ready – a paint prepper
- Colour in Tranquil
- Colour in Handsome
- Colour in Baroque
- Enhance Clear Glaze
- Protect – a satin polyacrylic topcoat
The Before Shot
And the piece I chose for my project, a little number I picked up at my local Goodwill a couple of weeks back. Isn’t that detail just gorgeous? A perfect specimen with all those turns and curves just begging to be enhanced.
Oh and those of you wondering…. yes that is a genuine Key West seven mile bridge sign in the background. When I saw that hanging in my husbands place when we were dating, I just knew we were a perfect match…lol !
Erase The Gouges
This piece had some heavy scratches across the top, so I did have to sand that smooth. I certainly didn’t want those deep crevices showing through my beautiful finish!
No Prep Just Colour?
No priming or sanding? That’s what this product Ready is for.. it cleans and preps the existing finish so the paint can adhere with no surface sanding, or priming over who knows what type of finish is on this piece. Simply spray it on, let it sit a little, then wipe it off, and your good to go!…. Here’s a shot of the top all sanded and stained with an oil based walnut stain topped off with an oil based Polyurethane. If it were a water base finished top, I would have used the protect polyacrylic.
I selected the colours Tranquil and Baroque to create a color blend to give this little table a boho vibe bright and colorful! Here it is before the next color layer.
For the final layer of color I mixed Handsome with Enhance in clear for a custom glaze to add depth. I didn’t measure just a pinch of this and a dollop of that. brushed it on and wiped it off until I got it just right. What a difference the color glaze makes right? Since the glaze acts as a sealer, I didn’t need to use the polycrylic topcoat on the legs.
