The Coastal Armoire – “Pure Colors, Original Elegance”

When I found out that Pure and Original was the sponsor for this month’s Fab Furniture Flipping Contest™ I already knew the exact piece I was going to makeover. This Armoire has been waiting in the wings for its debut with an extra special makeover in mind, and the Classico line is exactly what this piece has been waiting for to help bring out its elegant beauty with paints of pure colors for blending.

The Before

If Ya’ll follow me on Instagram, you may remember this shot I shared a few months back on this great piece I picked up from a local painter friend of mine, Jodi at She’s So Shabby in Boca. I have been waiting to do something special with this one, and its time has finally come for it’s revamp!

This is the before shot of what I started this project with.

The Inspiration

I am beside myself, excited that The fabulous Leslie Stocker from Colorways is participating in this month’s contest as one of the guest judges. The color boards she has put together and shared on Pinterest have been a long time favorite of mine, her pieces are such an inspiration.

Her color examples were so extremely helpful in choosing my colors for this month’s contest, be sure to check her out you will be delighted with so much painted eye candy.

The Final Color Choice

This is the color chip of Pure and Original that finalized my Classico color choices for this piece, isn’t it just so lovely and serene? Paints: Apple Blossom, Poetic Blue and Summerset Mauve. A perfect color combination to fit in any coastal decor.

There was another chip board of pure colors runner up which was pulling neck and neck with this one,  I had such a hard time narrowing down my color choices because they are all so drop dead gorgeous. With 120 Classico colors to choose from, this is the perfect brand of choice for the color blending paint technique.

The Base Colors

I started off with the base colors, this paint is a pleasure to work with silky velvet smooth application, great saturation of pure colors with only a couple of coats. It dries to a matte finish and the Classico line has no need for additional top coats on a piece like this.

However, If I were painting a piece with a hard wearing top such as a table, or kitchen cabinets, I would use their Dead Flat Eco Sealer.

Creating the Glass

I really wanted to bring it over the top and add some elegance with stained glass for this piece.

Check out the broken piece above. Heavily textured glass is a bleeding nightmare to work with when cutting. I can’t tell you how much glass I went through on this one, even with easy as pie straight cuts it just wouldn’t snap where I wanted it to. My neighbors must have thought I had a swarthy sailor visiting my studio that day!

Design

The glass pattern mimics the lower panels on the doors, and the seeded glass middle insert I chose to compliment the texture of the distressed wood. The rippled iridized glass adds a touch of texture and color with visibility for the objects placed inside the armoire when lit.

The hinges were stripped of glaze, and all the hardware was painted to compliment the interior color with a verdigris blue finish.

The backside and arched top was also painted to match the exterior painted finish.

Blending And Distressing of Pure Colors
I almost forgot to mention the impressive packaging

These paints arrived with the best packaging for paint cans I have ever received. Each can comes individually packaged in its own box, wrapped in bubble, clips on the lids. Those cans of pure colors could survive any airport luggage handler! Pretty darn impressive and totally professional.
