A Sea Green OFMP – Spool Turned Vanity

Here is my third project in the Custom Blended Sea Green Bedroom Suite done in The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. Milk Paint. I obtained a wonderful vintage bedroom suite of spool turned Wheeler Reproductions by Jamison, where each piece is done in its using variations of blended Sea Green Milk Paint, and a cohesive custom blend of grey. I’m still searching for the perfect fabric for the vanity seat!

Follow along and Subscribe, as I have another two pieces to go in this set! And my goal is to eventually do a whole room makeover reveal

The Before

Here is the vanity before, in all its mahogany glory. The top had a huge water stain, dings and dents galore

This is the before shot of what I started this project with.

A Wee Bit Of Prepping

The top needed a major sanding as well as the drawer fronts for its smooth finish.

Insider Tip:  Keeping A Furniture Journal

Mixing up custom blends of OFMP is a wonderful way to create your own signature look, and keeping a journal is a must! Not only to keep track of your mixing formulas, but all the steps for each piece, for when you want to recreate the look.

If you’re like me I forget how much I invested on materials, where I picked up a particular piece, or hardware.  I’ve created a journal template for Y’all to keep it your info neat and tidy.

The Cohesive Color

The whole bedroom suite is receiving this custom blend of light grey to tie them altogether, here are the drawers all lined up, under the glare of my shop light! You can find the Dove Grey color mix recipe used on this piece in a previous post. The grey areas got two topcoat’s of Acriglaze.

Forcing a Crackle

Sometimes the piece you’re working on doesn’t want to chip so much, you can coax it along with a heat gun.

Love That Chippy Color!

This piece was done in Sea Green OFMP, one of my favorite colors in the line. I custom mixed this color: 5 Parts Seagreen, to 1 part Snow White. Here we go, nice and chippy, just a little sanding of those flakes and we are all set. After sanding I finished all the green with Daddy Van’s Antique wax, love this stuff – no first coat of clear wax  is needed, and it is a perfect shade of brown for aging.
